I recently read this quote,
Great quote right?! Do you really know who you are? This is something I have been thinking about. This is what I have come up with so far. I love who I am and have accepted that: I am a horrible proofreader and an even worse speller. (Sorry to all of you for having to put up with it (-; ). I love to cook and hate to clean or go grocery shopping. I love to stay up late, but hate to wake up early. I love being a mother, but also need time to myself. I could keep going, but I think you are probably getting the point. Knowing and accepting these things lets me find choices and options to help work within who I am not keep fighting against it.
So, what does this have to do with Kitchen and Bath design? More than you think. I encourage you to know yourself and accept that. Only then can you design a happy kitchen you will love. Don’t try to conform to fit the mold because most the time you won’t change and only get frustrated by the results. Good design should fit you not the other way around.
What does this good design look like? It is going to be different combination and unique for each person. There is no such thing as the perfect kitchen or bath that will work for everyone. This is why you need to figure out who you and your family are first. Still not sure how who you are relates to your kitchen? Try making a list of how you use your kitchen today, this week, or this month. Not just what you are cooking and how you clean but EVERYTHING you do. Yes, add those several phone call, paying bills, and answering e-mails too. There is probably more than you think. Is this different than your neighbor? Probably? How can you design to work with these activities not against them?
